SSS Does Not mean Soccer Only!

The World Cup in 1994 in the USA proved that our stadiums can handle what worlds has to offer. Even has proved to be inspiring in archittcture, look at Wembly and Emirates Staduims in England or some of the Stadiums from the 2002 world cup. Ofcourse before long before USA94 we know our stadiums are world class.  They are already built large, thanks to college and the NFL games which has its own right or massive fanfare. Then as MLS came along and grew so did the the concept of the SSS, Soccer Specific Stadiums.  Modified outdoor facilties design to have a soccer feel and also benefit MLS teams in several ways, like in revenue and spreading awareness of soccer. But in North america we all know soccer is not a all-year long sport as portraited in Europe.  I often read blogs or any other article or pub related to how SSS should look like. Some fans whine and complain about roofs or lack therof or about needing grass(wussies). Its is good to that MLS teams have thier own stadia and there is nothing wrong with sharing tenants either. I love the face that you can have a concert in a SSS or a HS Championship Football game in them too. SSSs are adapting to American Sports Culture.

American soccer fandom should grow internally. (2009)

American soccer fandom should grow internally. (2009)

As soccer gradually grows domestically here in the North American share of the globe. I often sometimes have to question myself the state of American soccer from a fan perspective, Are Americans really embracing the game of soccer or maybe just the expats and latinos?  Is MLS benefiting from lack of english speaking coverage compared to the so called demand among latino market? Who is US Soccer trying to win over real american sports fan or trying to convert a stauch foreign base?  A good example of this can be the fans of the Seattle Sounders who in just a short time in MLS have managed to transcend a small time fanbase to help make soccer not only enjoyable but also entertaining. But worries me is the situation with the very exciting Soundwave band vs the Supporters groups. Like other supporters groups in europe and other places around the world several MLS teams have thier own, often in my impression can be percieved to be imitating groups from europe. And then you have the band, who can be relatively compared to NCAA bands from football and hoops season and have their decnt share of fans as well. Personally I rather se MLS adopt more bands in to soccer games it proves that adding classic american fandom can coexist with whats a european thing.  Not all fans have to have scarves and scream stand and clap or chant the whole game. Hopefully the Soundwave band gets more respect from the local supporters groups, American soccer needs it.

Major League Soccer needs More TV Coverage! (2009)

Mls need More TV Coverage! (2009)

MLS need to seek more tv coverage. Sure one game a week on ESPN and some on FSC(which is not available in alot of places, and you have to have a higher tier cable to get it.) And then you have the Spanish speaking networks which only just help MLS monetary wise but has not really grasped a decent viewership from the English speaking perspective. Some soccer diehards have often complained about lack of or the style of coverage. But those people often seem to underestimate the American sports scene, nor do they care to respect the American sports scene. I dont see why dont Major League Soccer pursue a basic cable channel to show more games like a TBS or TNT or USA or even VS. Maybe shop around the superliga on some of these networks too. I believe MLS need to overall better but thier "brand" out there to the mainstream American public.

The Five Points to Successful American Soccer! 2009

The Five Points to Successful American Soccer!
1) US Soccer and MLS Do Not need to "be" like the rest of the world(Europe).
SINCE when did it became a requirement that soccer in america havs to be exactly like europe? Who cares if the euro leagues dont want to have playoffs to crown a real champion or who dont want smaller teams to be competitve. American soccer is not UEFA, sporting wise we have our own way of doing things and FIFA needs to respect it. Sure MLS and the USL are young leagues and dont have much history and traditions as others outside the US and Canada. We are developing our own some with european and latin elements and more with american customs.
Single table or standings are not needed here. MLS confernce format is just fine, it provides a chance for every team at least a opportunity to win the league championship by competiting for a playoff spot and going through the playoffs to try and win the MLS Cup championship. Plus its alot more entertaining than watching some team "win the league" based off regular season results without a playoffs to decide the worthy champion. Or struggling teams who never had a shot at winning the championship because they are too far down the single table and maybe have to fight from being relegated. Our way (the current MLS format) is the better way for soccer I believe cause teams actually have a chance in earning the right to claim a championship unlike lets say the EPL? So Eurosnobs if you dont like how we Americans have our soccer then go live in europe or something. we dont need your arrogance and ignorance.

2) American soccer fandom should growing internally.
As soccer gradually grows domestically here in the North American share of the globe. I often sometimes have to question myself the state of American soccer from a fan perspective, Are Americans really embracing the game of soccer or maybe just the expats and latinos? 3) SSS does not mean "Soccer Only"!
The World Cup in 1994 in the USA proved that our stadiums can handle what worlds has to offer. 4) "Eurosnobs"
5) Recommended rule changes to improve soccer. Although soccer is called the beautiful game., and it deserves the right I am often time not always satified with some of the ways of how its played or with some of the rules. In Basketball NBA has its Rules and FiBA has thiers and things are fine. Why not Soccer mainly MLS. They should bring some of the old NASL rules back. Ofcourse nobody is perfect but here are some suggestions:
The Clock Run of Play and time regulation. MLS should bring back the countdown and stop screwing around with stoppage time. Keep the clock going in the game of course, stop when necessary for injuries mainly . Also you need a save bye the bell type thing going to compliment the game. The game clock should whats on the scoreboard of course through the refferee. And no need to speculate how much time is possibly left on the clock and the referee should be more consistant with the time left.
The Offsides rule is one of the most stupid rules in soccer, I understand its purpose but i think it does need to spread the width of the field. Just regulated around the penalty box area during the time in question.
Substitutions need to be Unlimited This can benefit the game alot. More scoring possiblities with fresher bodies especially legs coaches can stregize more both offensive and defensively during adverse situations in the game. Players benefit cause they know as a sub you have a better chance in conributing than just staying on the bench.
Those are some of the changes I would like to see and I am certain it would benefit MLS in winning More Mainstram Popularity
